Hamdelan is a not-for-profit cultural association founded in August 2021, dedicated to celebrating and preserving Iranian heritage while promoting harmony within Western Australia’s vibrant multicultural society.

Since its inception, Hamdelan has delivered more than 35 impactful events and initiatives — including traditional festivals, art exhibitions, educational workshops, and community programs — in collaboration with a wide range of cultural, educational, and community-based organisations. These events have created dynamic spaces for connection, creativity, and cultural pride.

Our mission is to strengthen community bonds, foster intercultural understanding, and empower individuals of Iranian background to participate fully and confidently in Australia’s social and cultural life.

Our vision: A connected community where Iranian culture enriches a vibrant and inclusive Australia. We are proudly inclusive and non-political, welcoming individuals of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, religions, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds — both Iranian and non-Iranian. Through our ongoing commitment to artistic expression, youth engagement, and mental well-being, Hamdelan continues to enrich the shared cultural fabric of our community.

We welcome all Iranians and non-Iranians, regardless of religion, ethnic background, or beliefs, and maintain a non-political and non-religious stance in all our activities.

Cultural Centers: Hubs of Creativity and Community

Cultural centers are institutions devoted to fostering cultural, educational, and social engagement. They offer spaces for learning and practicing various art forms—such as painting, pottery, music, and more—and may also feature dedicated libraries and publishing wings to support knowledge sharing and community storytelling.

Cultural centers generally fall into two main categories:

  • Content-Focused: These centers are structured around specific themes such as the arts, sports, or information technology. Hamdelan Iranian Cultural House draws inspiration from this model, tailoring its offerings to celebrate and promote Persian heritage through themed programs and activities.

  • Institution-Focused: These are organized around societal units like families, schools, or municipalities, and often provide services that reinforce social cohesion across generations.

The significance of cultural centers lies in their power to drive cultural development—a cornerstone for economic, social, and even technological progress. By nurturing creativity, dialogue, and shared identity, they help shape resilient, vibrant communities.

I found a wonderful community here that helped me feel less lonely.

Nearby, other pedestrians walk by, and there are banners in the background with text related to stopping executions in Iran. The setting includes pigeons on the ground, and a police officer is visible among the crowd.
